An online auction featuring items from the estate of renowned singer and composer Udo Jürgens raised approximately €1.7 million, with a standout item being a unique glass concert piano. This acrylic piano, which was famously flown by helicopter to Jungfraujoch in 1983 to promote Jürgens' album 'Traumtänzer', fetched an astonishing €240,000, far exceeding its estimated value of €20,000 to €30,000.
The auction, conducted by Sotheby's, saw remarkable participation, with all 99 lots sold and a total of 3,150 bids placed. Over 1,000 people attended preview events in Vienna, Munich, and Cologne, showcasing the high level of interest in the auction.
Among other notable items was an iconic white bathrobe, personalized and signed by German footballers, which was estimated to sell for €150 to €200 but ultimately sold for €26,400—an impressive 176 times its lower estimate. Additional high-value sales included a Bentley for €132,000, a Mercedes for €33,600, and a watercolor by Gustav Klimt for €168,000.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Udo Jürgens Foundation, which supports young musicians.
