Generation Z is reshaping the travel landscape with a focus on affordability, digital inspiration, and spontaneous adventures. According to a recent survey by Agoda, 57% of Gen Z travelers prefer to keep their accommodation costs under $50 per person per night, highlighting a desire for budget-friendly experiences without sacrificing the joy of exploration. This trend underscores a commitment to affordable travel without compromising on meaningful experiences. Social media plays a significant role in Gen Z's travel planning, with 22% relying on platforms like TikTok for inspiration. Travel blogs and vlogs are also popular, influencing 17% of Gen Z travelers. However, millennials are more likely to seek recommendations from family and friends. Agoda's survey also revealed a rise in last-minute bookings among Gen Z, with one in seven booking accommodations less than a week in advance. Spontaneity extends to flights as well, with one in eight Gen Z travelers booking flights at the last minute. "Filipino Gen Z travelers are demonstrating a strong appetite for discovery, with a preference for spontaneity, and affordable yet meaningful travel experiences," said Michael Hwang, country director for the Philippines at Agoda. "These behaviors are reinforcing Gen Z travelers' need for flexibility and digital-first experiences." The survey, conducted between January 10 and 31, included over 15,000 participants from various countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. It highlights the unique preferences and habits of this influential generation of travelers.
