Saudi Hospital Advances AI in Healthcare with Innovative Surgeries

RIAD, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 21, 2024 – King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) is enhancing healthcare through pioneering AI-driven diagnostics and minimally invasive surgeries. These innovations improve precision and outcomes while contributing to global healthcare advancements.

The hospital's Health Intelligence Center (CHI) has developed numerous AI applications and predictive models that enhance clinical and operational outcomes. This includes AI-based imaging technologies that significantly improve the diagnosis and treatment of critical conditions like breast cancer and pulmonary fibrosis, enabling earlier detection and better decision-making for physicians.

By integrating AI with Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), KFSHRC facilitates real-time diagnosis and predictive modeling, allowing personalized treatment plans by forecasting disease progression in pulmonary fibrosis. Similarly, AI risk models in breast cancer reduce diagnostic variability, ensuring patients receive timely and accurate care. CHI has also developed predictive models for bone marrow transplants and heart failure, enabling early identification of high-risk patients to improve treatment outcomes and resource management.

Recently, KFSHRC successfully conducted a life-saving minimally invasive surgery using branched stent technology to repair a ruptured aortic aneurysm, marking the first procedure of its kind in the Middle East. Enabled by high-resolution 3D imaging and real-time blood flow monitoring, this advanced procedure significantly reduced recovery time and minimized risks compared to traditional surgery, showcasing the precision of KFSHRC's medical technologies.

KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 20th globally among the top 250 Academic Medical Centers for two consecutive years, recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the region according to 2024 Brand Finance rankings. Additionally, it was listed among the top 250 hospitals worldwide and included in the World’s Smartest Hospitals list for 2025 by Newsweek.
