Tadej Pogacar Achieves Historic Cycling Triple Crown in 2024

Tadej Pogacar, the Slovenian cyclist renowned for his extraordinary talent, has made history by winning the World Championship in Zurich on September 30, 2024. This victory marks a significant milestone in his career, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.

Pogacar's championship performance was nothing short of spectacular. He executed a decisive attack 100 kilometers from the finish line, outpacing leading riders and completing the final 51.7 kilometers solo. This remarkable feat ranks as the third-longest solo ride to victory in World Championship history, following Georges Ronsse and Vittorio Adorni.

In addition to the World Championship title, Pogacar has achieved the prestigious yellow jersey in the Tour de France, following a fierce competition with Jonas Vingegaard, and the pink jersey in the Giro d'Italia, which he wore from the outset of the race. His accomplishments this season have led to comparisons with cycling legends Eddy Merckx and Stephen Roche, who previously achieved the Tour, Giro, and World Championship trifecta.

Beyond these triumphs, Pogacar also claimed one of cycling's Five Monuments, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and finished third in Milan-San Remo. With the upcoming Lombardy race, where he has won the last three editions, Pogacar aims to further enhance his already stellar season. Currently, he has won four out of nine major competitions he entered this year, setting the stage for a historic finale.
