Guatemala - The Santiaguito volcano in Guatemala erupted on February 9, 2025, sending an ash plume up to 10,498 feet (3,500 meters) above sea level, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh).

The Insivumeh reported that the eruption produced weak degassing with pulses forming a gas column up to 500 meters high. The agency also noted weak to moderate explosions generating incandescence and a gas column with ash. The ash plume could disperse 15 to 40 kilometers west, potentially reaching farms and communities near the volcano, including San Marcos Palajunoj and Loma Linda.
