Freezing Temperatures Expected in Columbia, December 3, 2024

Columbia is set to experience a cold front bringing freezing temperatures and a slight chance of snow flurries on the morning of December 3. Snow showers are anticipated particularly along the North Carolina-South Carolina border, with Kershaw and Fairfield counties having minimal chances for light flurries.

According to Chris Landolfi from the National Weather Service's Columbia office, while accumulation is not expected, there may be a brief period of snowflakes in northern Lancaster and Chesterfield County late tonight into early Tuesday morning.

Temperatures in Columbia could plummet to the mid to upper teens during the early hours of December 3, with daytime highs remaining in the 40s. The last measurable snowfall in Columbia occurred in January 2022, when the area recorded 2 inches. The most significant snowstorm in the region's history took place in February 1973, resulting in 16 inches of snow along Interstate 20.
