On January 14, 2025, Elon Musk announced via X (formerly Twitter) that Tesla will deploy Cybertruck vehicles equipped with Starlink and supplies to support areas in Los Angeles and Malibu affected by recent fires.

Musk stated, "We will place Cybertrucks with Starlinks and free WiFi in a grid pattern in the areas that need it most." This initiative aims to provide internet access and basic support to victims who have lost connectivity and essential resources.

In addition to mobile base stations, the Cybertrucks will be accompanied by security personnel and will offer drinks and snacks to passersby. Musk apologized to those awaiting Cybertruck deliveries, noting that units designated for the affected areas will be temporarily removed from scheduled deliveries.

He emphasized that the deployment of Cybertrucks as mobile base stations represents an innovative technological response to the lack of communication infrastructure in the impacted regions. With Starlink, residents who have lost connectivity will regain internet access, facilitating communication and coordination of rescue efforts. Musk assured that support will continue as the situation unfolds.

A new truck is expected to be delivered by the end of the week, he added.

The announcement has elicited mixed reactions, with some viewing it as an act of solidarity and others as a publicity stunt during a crisis. Nevertheless, the urgent need for resources in the fire-ravaged areas is undeniable, and rescue teams and residents hope initiatives like Musk's will help alleviate the severity of the situation.
