The Superintendence for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene) has authorized the release of the first installment of R$ 400 million from a total of R$ 3.6 billion allocated for the Transnordestina railway project. This railway will connect the states of Ceará and Piauí.

As Brazil's largest national infrastructure project, the Transnordestina is crucial for the transport of food and supplies, serving both domestic and export markets. The Ministry of Transport has stated that this project is a priority for the Federal Government.

Construction on the Transnordestina has gained momentum in 2023 with the resumption of federal investments. The government aims for the completion of Phase 1 of the railway by 2027, with Phase 2 expected to be finished by 2029.

Once completed, the Transnordestina will traverse the states of Piauí, Ceará, and Pernambuco. Funding will be provided through credits from the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE).
