Mixi Inc. has unveiled Romi, an emotional support robot designed to address loneliness, anxiety, and depression, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Currently available in Japan for approximately $570, Romi is distinguished by its empathetic interactions and conversational abilities, making it a unique alternative to traditional AI.

Romi is particularly beneficial in nursing homes, helping residents feel less isolated. Scott Paik, a representative from Mixi, noted that Romi can engage users in meaningful conversations, such as greeting them in the morning or discussing their day, thereby reducing feelings of loneliness.

The robot has already won the CES 2025 Innovation Award in the Robotics category, highlighting its potential in mental and physical health care. Mixi plans to launch a new model, Romi Lacatan, this spring and is exploring international expansion to adapt Romi for various markets.

As robots increasingly enter the realm of social care, Romi represents a promising solution to the growing challenges of isolation and mental health issues.
