Rwanda Reports Progress in Containing Marburg Virus Outbreak with No New Cases

Rwanda's Ministry of Health reported two patients of the Marburg virus in the past week, announcing a shift to weekly updates on the pandemic. All patients have recovered, with no new fatalities, infections, or cases under isolation.

Health Minister Dr. Nsanzimana Sabin stated that there have been no new cases for nine days and no deaths in the past three weeks. He emphasized that the outbreak is under control and that surveillance efforts continue.

The Marburg virus outbreak was confirmed in Rwanda on September 27, prompting the implementation of stringent measures to prevent further spread. These measures included public health campaigns promoting hygiene and limiting close contact.

As part of the response, 1,710 frontline workers have been vaccinated. Minister Nsanzimana highlighted the challenges faced in identifying the virus's source, which was eventually traced to a bat from a cave.
