Addis Ababa - At a conference in Addis Ababa, organized by Ethiopia and the African Union (AU), UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for aid to civilians, humanitarian access, and a halt to arms flows in Sudan. Moussa Faki Mahmat, AU Chairperson, urged a ceasefire.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation requested a humanitarian truce for Ramadan. Reem al-Hashimi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, announced an additional $200 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan.

Ethiopia pledged $15 million, and Kenya promised $1 million for aid efforts. Conflict in Sudan since April 2023 has resulted in thousands of deaths, millions displaced, and widespread famine. The Sudanese government accuses the UAE of arming the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a charge both deny. UN experts reported that weapons reach the RSF via Chad, Libya, and South Sudan.

The Burhán-led Transitional Council is closely allied with Egypt.
