Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was caught on a hot mic saying President Trump's talk of making Canada the 51st state was "a real thing" - a statement that revealed Trump's potential motives for targeting Canada's critical minerals resources.
Trudeau made the comments during a closed-door meeting with Canadian business and labor leaders on Friday. The remarks were accidentally broadcast on a loudspeaker, according to CBS News. Trudeau suggested that the Trump administration's interest in Canada's critical minerals could be the reason behind their repeated attempts to absorb Canada into the United States.
In a separate development, former President Donald Trump announced that he is revoking former President Joe Biden's security clearance and ending his daily intelligence briefings. Trump claimed that Biden set a precedent in 2021 by halting Trump's intelligence briefings after the January 6th Capitol riot.
Trump's decision comes after he was indicted in 2023 for mishandling classified documents during his presidency. The case was later dismissed by a judge who ruled the appointment of the special prosecutor was unconstitutional.
