On January 30, 2025, Sweden's Defense Minister, Pal Jonson, declared the necessity for Europe to prepare for a more significant role in supporting Ukraine. During a press conference, he announced a new military aid package valued at 13.5 billion kronor (approximately 1.2 billion dollars), marking the largest assistance effort from Sweden since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.

This 18th package includes a transition from supplying existing stockpiles to procuring new weapons. Jonson highlighted that 5.9 billion kronor will be allocated for purchasing materials from both Swedish and foreign industries, which will then be delivered to Ukraine. Additionally, 1 billion kronor will be dedicated to the production of long-range missiles and drones within Ukraine.

The package also comprises approximately 3.3 billion kronor in support from the Swedish Armed Forces, which includes 16 Combat Boat 90 landing craft, 146 trucks, 23 naval combat modules, and a million rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition. Furthermore, it includes 1,500 TOW anti-tank missiles and 200 units of anti-tank weaponry, along with soldier and unit equipment, and protective gear against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

With this latest contribution, Sweden's total military support for Ukraine has reached 61.9 billion kronor (around 5.6 billion dollars), underscoring the country's commitment to long-term assistance for Ukraine.
