Rescue teams are actively searching for 13 individuals reported missing after the tourist boat "Sea Story" capsized off Egypt's Red Sea coast. The incident occurred on November 25, 2024, when the vessel was struck by a large wave near Sataya Reef, resulting in the boat sinking within seven minutes.
According to local officials, the "Sea Story" was carrying 44 people, including 31 tourists and 13 crew members. Of those on board, 28 were rescued by another tourist vessel with only minor injuries. Four bodies have been recovered so far.
The German Foreign Office has confirmed that German citizens are among the missing individuals. Local Governor Amr Hanafi stated that the rescued passengers are in good condition and did not require hospitalization.
Prior to the incident, the Egyptian Red Sea Ports Authority reported wave heights of 3-4 meters (10-13 feet) and wind speeds of 34 knots in the area, leading to the closure of maritime traffic. Despite these conditions, the "Sea Story" had passed its last safety inspection in March 2024 and held a valid one-year safety certificate.
