LEGO Expands Solar Energy Initiatives

February 3, 2025, Vietnam and Hungary - The LEGO Group is set to enhance its renewable energy generation through significant solar power expansions at new and existing factories.

The company aims for a 37% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2032, based on a 2019 baseline of 1.16 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). However, emissions rose to 1.82 million tCO2e from 2019 to 2023.

Key initiatives include:

  • A 72% increase in solar capacity across global offices and factories.

  • 12,400 solar panels to be installed at the new factory in Vietnam, scheduled to open in the first half of 2025.

  • A plan to triple solar capacity at the Nyíregyháza facility in Hungary by year-end.

  • Completion of an 80 MWp solar park near the headquarters in Billund, Denmark, by 2028, which will meet the peak energy demand of all local facilities.

Chief Sustainability Officer Annette Stube emphasized the importance of sustainable materials and innovative battery-storage solutions in achieving net-zero emissions.
