T-Mobile, a leading US mobile operator, has partnered with SpaceX to offer free Starlink access to iPhone and Android users in the US. The collaboration will allow smartphone owners to experience satellite internet connectivity without any cost until July 2025.

This partnership, exclusive to the US, enables consumers to enjoy free access to Starlink for a limited period. Users with compatible iPhone or Android phones simply need to register for Starlink. T-Mobile plans to extend Starlink access to some subscribers beyond July 2025, while others can activate a Starlink subscription for a fee of $15. Non-T-Mobile users in the US can access Starlink for a monthly fee of $20.

Initially, Starlink support will be limited to iMessage and SMS services. Voice calling and mobile data support are expected to be introduced in the future. T-Mobile officials have confirmed that smartphones with satellite connectivity will automatically connect to Starlink satellites.

While the initial Starlink testing for smartphones might not be groundbreaking, given the limited functionality, the introduction of voice calling and mobile data support is expected to be a game-changer. The impact of Starlink on smartphone connectivity speeds remains to be seen.
