Veea Launches 'Internet of Forests' in Colombia

In a groundbreaking initiative, Veea, in collaboration with the Colombian government and partners O.N.E. Amazon and AECOM, has unveiled the 'Internet of Forests' project. This innovative deployment aims to enhance the monitoring and analysis of rainforest health in Colombia's Chiribiquete National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, through advanced hybrid edge-cloud computing and AI-driven technologies.

The initiative seeks to digitally connect every hectare of rainforest, thereby promoting sustainable economic and social benefits for local communities while addressing urgent biodiversity challenges. Veea's CEO, Allen Salmasi, emphasized that making the planet's natural wonders visible in the digital realm opens up new avenues for conservation and economic growth.

The technology will utilize ground sensors and cameras, with data processed locally to provide real-time insights into environmental conditions and human activities. This capability is crucial for monitoring threats like deforestation and wildfires, which significantly impact biodiversity.

Moreover, the project aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to safeguard the Amazon's ecosystems while supporting local livelihoods through innovative applications in agriculture, renewable energy, and ecotourism.

As the Amazon region faces increasing environmental pressures, the 'Internet of Forests' represents a significant step towards sustainable development and ecological preservation, benefiting both the environment and the communities that depend on it.
