Internet Archive to Reopen After Cyber Attack

The Internet Archive and its Wayback Machine service, which temporarily shut down due to a recent cyber attack, are set to reopen shortly. Brewster Kahle, the founder, announced that the platforms will be back online within a few days as the team works to enhance security measures.

Founded in 1996, the Internet Archive allows users to view snapshots of websites from specific dates. Following the cyber attack, which resulted in a significant data breach exposing personal information linked to over 31 million unique email addresses, the platform had to close its services without prior notice. Kahle reassured users that while the data is secure, the services are undergoing necessary reviews and improvements.

Currently, users attempting to access the Internet Archive's website encounter temporary service unavailability messages, with the same situation applying to the Wayback Machine. The incident has raised concerns over data privacy and security, emphasizing the importance of robust protective measures in digital platforms.
