On December 6, 2024, a significant atmospheric depression is forming over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, as reported by meteorological authorities. This system is expected to develop into a low-pressure area in the central parts of the southern Bay of Bengal by December 7.

The system is projected to move northwestward and may approach the Tamil Nadu coast by December 12.

Weather conditions in Tamil Nadu are as follows:

  • December 6: Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in a few areas, particularly Puducherry and Karaikal.

  • December 7-10: Similar light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in select regions.

  • December 11: Light to moderate rain may occur in coastal Tamil Nadu and a few interior areas.

  • December 12: Rainfall is expected to continue in various locations across coastal Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry and Karaikal.

Districts such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram may experience heavy rainfall.

For Chennai and its suburbs, the weather forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with possible light mist in the early morning hours. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may occur in some areas during the evening and night. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 31-32°C, while minimum temperatures may hover around 25°C.

Over the next 48 hours, similar weather patterns are anticipated, with maximum temperatures reaching 32-33°C and minimum temperatures between 25-26°C.
