The United Kingdom is grappling with the aftermath of Storm Bert, which has resulted in significant flooding and disruption across various regions. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and snowfall over the weekend have led to widespread damage and several fatalities.
Following the storm, the Met Office has issued a new warning for heavy rainfall in northwest Scotland, anticipating further flooding risks. The deep low-pressure system associated with Storm Bert caused extensive damage, with reports indicating that White Barrow in Devon received the highest rainfall, totaling 175.7mm from November 23 to November 25. Treherbert in South Wales recorded 171.6mm during the same period.
Wind gusts reached up to 82mph at Capel Curig in Gwynedd, compounding travel disruptions. More than 300 flood warnings and alerts are currently active across England and Wales, affecting rail services and leading to road closures due to flooding and debris.
In Oxford, residents are concerned about rising water levels threatening their properties. The Oxford City Council has implemented flood barriers and is on standby with pumps as river levels continue to rise. Flood warnings have been issued for the River Thames and River Cherwell, with additional rainfall of up to 20mm expected.
Authorities continue to advise caution as flood risks remain high, particularly in areas already affected by the storm.
