Barbacena Castle in Elvas, Portugal to Transform into a Charming Hotel with €4 Million Investment

Portugal's historic Barbacena Castle, located in Elvas, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation into a charming hotel. With an investment of around €4 million, this project promises to blend history with modern luxury, offering a unique experience for travelers. Construction is scheduled to begin in May, with an anticipated completion time of two years. The castle, dating back to the 12th century, was acquired by the Chaves do Areeiro Group, marking their first venture into the hotel industry. The owner, Paulo Luz, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to create a distinctive hospitality experience. The hotel will feature 12 rooms, accommodating up to 24 guests, alongside a restaurant and spa. The development is expected to create six new jobs in the area. Notably, the restaurant will be open to the public, providing a dining option for both hotel guests and local residents. José Rondão Almeida, the Mayor of Elvas, has expressed his support for the project, emphasizing its contribution to the municipality's tourism offerings. The project has already received favorable opinions from both the municipal council and the Ministry of Culture. Barbacena Castle, recognized as a Property of Public Interest since 1967, is poised to become a must-visit destination, combining historical significance with contemporary comfort.
