The Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti is on the brink of launching full commercial operations, marking a significant milestone for the region. According to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, the airport is 99.5% complete, with all essential facilities in place for its inaugural flights.
During a recent inspection alongside Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Keyamo highlighted the airport's international-standard runway and spacious apron, which can accommodate multiple small-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 737. "Ekiti is ready for the world," he declared, emphasizing the airport's potential to enhance the local economy through agriculture, commerce, and tourism.
Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude for the support received from government officials and acknowledged the vision of his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in initiating this project. The airport is expected to create jobs and increase property values in the area due to the anticipated influx of travelers and goods.
The dual-purpose airport will cater to both agro-allied products and commercial passengers, making it a vital hub for the region's economic development. With the Minister's recent landing at the airport, it has been confirmed safe for non-scheduled flights, paving the way for commercial operations to commence shortly.
This development not only enhances connectivity for travelers but also represents a leap forward in the region's infrastructure, promising to boost the local economy and attract visitors from around the globe.
