China Eastern Airlines has launched a new direct route between Xi'an Xianyang International Airport and Istanbul Airport. The inaugural flight took place on June 24, 2025, carrying over 200 passengers.
The new service operates three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The route aims to strengthen the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering economic cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Türkiye.
Key figures like Wu Jian, China's Deputy Consul General in Istanbul, highlighted the route's significance. Firat Ocak, Aviation Development Director at Istanbul Airport, expressed confidence in the route's benefits for Chinese travelers. Li Ge, General Manager of China Eastern Airlines' Istanbul branch, emphasized the bridge it creates for bilateral cooperation.
The direct flights enhance connectivity between western China and Türkiye. Tickets are now available, offering enhanced travel options between China and Europe. This expansion builds upon China Eastern's existing Shanghai-Istanbul route launched in September 2023.
