In June 2025, Western Mining announced that its subsidiary, Tibet Yulong Copper Co., Ltd., received approval for the third-phase project of the Yulong Copper Mine. The project, located in the Tibet Autonomous Region, aims to significantly increase copper production.
The expansion will boost the mine's production capacity from 19.89 million tons per year to 30 million tons per year. The total investment for the project is 4.793 billion yuan. This includes constructing a new 11 million tons per year concentrator and increasing the hydrometallurgy capacity.
Upon completion, the project is expected to yield 180,000 to 200,000 tons of copper annually. However, the project still requires approvals from other departments and faces challenges due to the harsh natural environment, which could affect the construction timeline.
