Intense Israeli Airstrikes on Tehran Amid Conflict, Trump Demands Surrender

Dubai, June 18 - Intense Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran's capital, Tehran, early Wednesday. A human rights group reported at least 585 deaths and 1,326 injuries across Iran.

The Human Rights Activists group identified 239 civilian deaths and 126 security personnel deaths due to the Israeli strikes. The group cross-references local reports to compile its data.

Iran's last official update, issued Monday, reported 224 deaths and 1,277 injuries. The airstrikes, which began on Friday, have caused widespread uncertainty and led to residents fleeing Tehran.

Israel claims the strikes aim to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. The campaign followed a 60-day window set by former President Donald Trump for negotiations.

Iran has enriched uranium up to 60%, a step towards weapons-grade levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency is still conducting limited inspections. US intelligence agencies have not confirmed Iran is actively pursuing a nuclear weapon.

Iran has retaliated with approximately 400 missiles and hundreds of drones, resulting in 24 deaths in Israel. Major explosions were heard in Tehran Wednesday morning.

Iranian authorities have not acknowledged the attacks. One strike appeared to target Tehran's Hakimiyeh neighborhood. Traffic congestion and closed shops, including the Grand Bazaar, were reported.

Israel also claims to have killed Gen. Ali Shadmani, described as Iran's most senior remaining military commander. Shadmani was recently appointed to a senior role in the Revolutionary Guard.

President Trump demanded "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" from Iran and warned Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Tuesday.

Iran's military leaders vowed further attacks. Gen. Abdul Rahim Mousavi stated that the "punishment operation will be carried out soon." Israel warned its population to seek shelter.

The US State Department announced the US Embassy in Jerusalem will remain closed through Friday. Iran has reduced the number of missiles fired, possibly due to Israeli targeting of launchers.
