The IRS initiated a Reduction in Force (RIF) on April 4, impacting staffing across multiple offices and job categories. An email was sent to over 3,600 IRS employees in Philadelphia, instructing them to upload their resumes by April 14. This action follows reports of the Trump administration's plan to cut 20-25% of the IRS workforce. The National Treasury Employees Union Chapter 71, representing IRS employees in Philadelphia, expressed concern over the impact on workers. In February, the IRS terminated over 400 probationary Philadelphia-area workers, but a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order for their return on April 14. A Yale University report indicated that cutting 18,200 IRS jobs would result in $8.3 billion less in tax revenue in 2026.
