Morocco and Syria Agree to Re-establish Diplomatic Ties and Reopen Embassies in May 2025

Morocco and Syria have agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies. This agreement was reached during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad al-Shaibani, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in Baghdad on May 18, 2025.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 34th Arab League Summit held in the Iraqi capital. Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The Kingdom of Morocco has announced its intention to reopen its embassy in Damascus, a move welcomed by the Syrian Arab Republic. In return, Syria will begin the procedures to reopen its embassy in Rabat, demonstrating a mutual effort to improve bilateral relations after years of strained ties.
