On Monday, the Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced the 2025/2026 Family Farming Plan, with a record investment of R$89 billion. R$78.2 billion will be allocated to the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf), marking a 3% increase from the previous plan.
The Pronaf, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025, will maintain an interest rate of 3% per year for financing essential food production. New initiatives include microcredit lines for rural women, focusing on productive backyards, with interest rates of 0.5% per year and bonuses of up to 40% for compliance.
The plan also relaunches "Mais Alimentos," offering facilitated credit for acquiring tractors and other equipment. Additionally, the plan strengthens insurance and public purchasing mechanisms. President Lula also signed a decree instituting the National Program for Agrochemical Reduction (Pronara) to decrease agrochemical use and promote agroecological practices.
