On July 8, 2025, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Brasília. The visit followed Modi's participation in the XVII BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7.

During their meeting, both leaders signed agreements in public security, agriculture, renewable energy, digital transformation, and intellectual property. These agreements aim to deepen the strategic partnership established in 2006. Specific details of the agreements included joint initiatives to combat cybercrime, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and facilitate technology transfer in the renewable energy sector. Furthermore, they agreed to enhance cooperation in protecting intellectual property rights and fostering innovation. A key agreement focused on bolstering collaboration in space exploration, with both nations committing to joint missions and data sharing. Another significant outcome was the establishment of a joint task force to explore opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry, aiming to improve access to affordable medicines and promote research and development.

President Lula emphasized Brazil's stance against a "second Cold War" and expressed concerns regarding criticism of BRICS. Modi was also honored with the Order of the Southern Cross, Brazil's highest national honor for foreign dignitaries.
