Brazil And China Sign Agreement For Bioceanic Railway

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

On July 7, 2025, Brazil and China signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of a Bioceanic Railway Corridor.

The project aims to connect Brazil to the Pacific Ocean through the Port of Chancay in Peru.

This initiative seeks to facilitate Brazilian exports to Asia, generating economic and logistical benefits.

The railway will link the Port of Chancay to the Port of Ilhéus in Brazil, covering approximately 6,500 kilometers.

This will reduce cargo transport time to Asia and promote South American integration.

The agreement is part of a strategic cooperation agenda established by the presidents of both countries.

The Port of Chancay, operated by Cosco Shipping Ports, began operations in late 2024.

It has an initial capacity to handle about 1 million containers annually, with plans to expand to 1.5 million.

This strategic location will allow large vessels to dock, reducing maritime transport time between Peru and China by up to 15 days.

The agreement signifies a major step in strengthening trade ties and promoting sustainable economic development in the region.
