The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has announced financing for Brazil, focusing on the restoration of mangrove forests. This initiative recognizes mangroves as essential natural infrastructure for carbon storage.
The AIIB's approach includes a standard cost-benefit analysis, expanded by the valuation of natural capital. The decision was announced during the bank's tenth annual meeting in Beijing, with over 3,500 representatives from about a hundred countries.
The meeting also elected Zou Jiayi, former Vice-Minister of Finance of China, to preside over the AIIB from January 2026. Brazil is a founding member of the AIIB.
