Kamoa Copper to Establish Large-Scale Solar Power System in DR Congo

Edited by: Katya Palm Beach

CrossBoundary Energy and Kamoa Copper have signed an electricity power purchase agreement (PPA) to establish a renewable energy production system in Kolwezi, Democratic Republic of Congo. The project includes a 222 MWp photovoltaic solar power plant coupled with a 123MVA / 526 MWh battery storage system (BESS). The solar facility will supply 30 MW of renewable base load electricity to the Kamoa-Kakula mining complex, one of the world’s largest copper sites, with a capacity of nearly 600,000 tons per year.
