The UK government has announced a £20 million investment to develop flying taxis, aiming to make them a common mode of transport by 2028. Aviation Minister Mike Kane revealed the funding alongside proposals to establish an "advanced aviation ecosystem" in Britain.

The initiative includes using drone technology to support the NHS, assist police, inspect infrastructure, and handle deliveries. The Civil Aviation Authority will receive £16.5 million in 2025 and 2026 to enhance drone technology and integrate eVTOLs into UK airspace.

A Future of Flight industry group will be formed, co-chaired by the Aviation Minister and Skyports CEO Duncan Walker, to foster innovation. Virgin Atlantic has also outlined plans to partner with Joby to operate air taxi services in the US and UK, with potential routes including Manchester Airport to Leeds and Heathrow Airport to Canary Wharf.
