Greenpeace Activists Protest U.S. and Russian Gas Imports in Belgium, Urging EU to Phase Out Fossil Fuels by 2035

Greenpeace Belgium activists protested the arrival of U.S. and Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports at the port of Zeebrugge on Thursday. The protest, involving eight members carrying banners, aimed to pressure the European Union to abandon fossil gas by 2035. Activists confronted the U.S. Marvel Swallow and a Russian gas tanker, arguing that reliance on gas imports compromises energy security and funds autocrats. Greenpeace is urging the EU to ban new fossil fuel projects, investments in fossil fuels, and phase out fossil gas by 2035. They highlight that the EU's dependence on fossil fuels leads to rising energy bills, health issues, environmental destruction, and climate change. An open letter with over 81,000 signatures supports these demands.
