Protests in Serbia Demand Early Elections Amidst Clashes

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

In Serbia, ongoing protests demanding early parliamentary elections continue. The demonstrations, which began in November 2024, intensified after the collapse of a railway station roof in Novi Sad, resulting in 16 deaths.

On June 28, 2025, tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Belgrade's central Slavija square. They expressed dissatisfaction with President Aleksandar Vučić's government. Clashes with police resulted in arrests and injuries to six officers.

Students have played a key role in the protests, organizing blockades and gatherings in over 30 cities. Their demands include government resignation, accountability for the Novi Sad incident, and democratic reforms. Authorities have responded with increased repression, including arrests and the use of force.
