On June 25, 2025, Israel restarted natural gas exports to Egypt after a ceasefire with Iran. The Leviathan field, Israel's largest offshore gas field, resumed operations after a near two-week shutdown due to the conflict.
Prior to the shutdown, Israel exported approximately 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day to Egypt, representing 15-20% of Egypt's consumption. The conflict significantly impacted regional energy sectors, including Iran's oil exports and gas production.
The resumption of exports is expected to boost state tax revenues and provide greater flexibility in managing the electricity and industrial sectors in both countries. Egyptian officials anticipate a gradual ramp-up in imports, reaching full operation by June 28, 2025.
