Hong Kong's Pro-Democracy Group Disbands Amidst Political Pressure

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

On June 29, 2025, the League of Social Democrats, one of the last remaining pro-democracy groups in Hong Kong, announced its dissolution.

The group cited "enormous political pressure" from authorities as the reason for disbanding. This marks another instance of the shrinking space for dissent in the region.

The dissolution follows the closure of numerous political parties, unions, and civil society organizations since the implementation of the National Security Law in 2020.
