The European Union is committed to enforcing its digital regulations fully, irrespective of the leadership or location of companies like X, Meta, Apple, and TikTok. This commitment was affirmed by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a statement to Politico on Sunday.
Von der Leyen emphasized that the EU has initiated cases against several tech companies to ensure the protection of individuals. She stated that the EU applies its rules fairly and proportionally, without bias, focusing on safeguarding people rather than the origin or leadership of the companies.
The EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), designed to create a level playing field and enhance consumer choice, has faced criticism, including from the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Decisions regarding potential breaches of the DMA by Apple and Meta are expected in the coming weeks.
