Ukraine aims to become a member of the European Union by 2030, according to Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna. She stated on Friday, March 15th, that this goal is already being practically implemented, even amidst the ongoing war. Stefanishyna also referenced statements by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who indicated that with accelerated reforms, Ukraine could potentially join the EU by 2030.
Amidst efforts to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called on Russia to make concessions. During a virtual meeting of heads of state and government supporting Ukraine in the UK on Saturday, Scholz emphasized the need for Russia to cease attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure, and to pursue a path towards a lasting and just peace. He welcomed Ukraine's willingness to consider a 30-day ceasefire, as proposed by the U.S., and acknowledged the leading role of U.S. President Donald Trump in achieving a potential ceasefire and lasting peace in Ukraine. Scholz affirmed Germany's continued support for Ukraine in coordination with European and international partners until a comprehensive and enduring peace is achieved.
