WHO Member States Reach Preliminary Agreement on Pandemic Treaty

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO) member states reached a preliminary agreement on April 12, 2025, regarding a treaty designed to improve global protection against future pandemics. The agreement follows over three years of discussions initiated in December 2021, two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Delegates are scheduled to reconvene in Geneva on April 15 to finalize the text, with the aim of presenting the document for adoption by all WHO member states at the World Health Assembly in May. A key point of contention during negotiations involved the transfer of technology for manufacturing health products related to pandemics, particularly to developing countries.
