Colombia Receives Proposals for 69 Offshore Wind Energy Projects

Companies worldwide have submitted proposals to develop 69 offshore areas in Colombia's inaugural offshore wind energy auction, according to the National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH). This auction marks a significant step towards President Gustavo Petro's objective of diversifying the energy sector and diminishing reliance on oil and coal. The preliminary list includes companies from Belgium, Britain, China, Spain, and Colombian entities like Ecopetrol. The government aims to award projects capable of generating a minimum installed capacity of 1 gigawatt, with each project requiring at least 200 megawatts. The broader goal is to achieve 7 gigawatts of installed offshore wind power capacity by 2040. While deposits for offers can be submitted until the end of May, the awarding date remains unannounced.
