The strike is scheduled to begin Sunday evening in Cologne and Monday morning in Düsseldorf, with Verdi anticipating significant disruptions to passenger flights.
The industrial action stems from an ongoing wage dispute affecting public sector employees at the federal and municipal levels. Verdi is seeking an 8% pay increase, with a minimum of €350 more per month, alongside higher bonuses for demanding work.
Düsseldorf International, a key hub for Eurowings, handled over 19 million passengers in 2023, while Cologne-Bonn saw over 10 million travelers and is a major freight airport.
