Mass flight cancellations and delays impacted travelers at Cologne/Bonn and Dusseldorf airports in western Germany on Monday, February 24th, due to strikes. At Cologne/Bonn Airport, 106 of 168 scheduled flights were canceled. Dusseldorf Airport experienced cancellations of approximately 30% of its 334 scheduled takeoffs and landings. The Verdi union called for the strike involving public sector employees at both airports, citing a dispute over wages for federal and local government employees. The union seeks an 8% pay increase, a minimum of 350 euros more per month, higher allowances for demanding jobs, and three additional days off. A third round of wage negotiations is scheduled for March 14th.
