Ecuador restores power supply

On Saturday evening, 31 October 2026, specialists from Elecgalápagos completed the restoration of electricity in the urban and rural areas of Santa Cruz Island. The work was carried out after heavy rains that lasted about ten hours on Friday, 30 October.

Ecuador's Ministry of Environment and Energy reported that four damaged poles were replaced, eight were straightened, and a temporary support pole was installed on the substation line. Conditions were difficult due to washed-out roads and waterlogged soil.

Power supply to the La Camiseta pumping station was also restored. Local authorities are now assessing the condition of the equipment to determine when the pumping of raw water to the treatment facilities will resume.

Meanwhile, residents are getting water from reserves, tankers and wells. Santa Cruz Island remains under a state of emergency.

On neighboring Baltra, where seven government institutions operate, technicians continue their work. Backup generators are still being used there.

How quickly will life be fully back to normal after these rains?
