Germany Sets Historic Solar Energy Record-1
July 2026: the sun gave the country more electricity than ever before

In July 2026, German solar power achieved something that was only dreamed of until recently. For the first time in history, the country's solar panels fed over 12 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy into the public grid—the exact figure was 12.035 terawatt-hours.

This marks a new absolute monthly record. The previous peak was set in June 2026, at just over 11 TWh. Compared to July 2025, this represents an increase of nearly 44%, as that month saw 8.376 TWh.

During the hottest and sunniest hours of the day, average solar generation capacity exceeded 40,000 megawatts. To put this into perspective, it's equivalent to more than forty large nuclear reactors operating simultaneously. Crucially, all this energy was supplied precisely when it was most needed, during peak daytime consumption.

Germany's installed solar capacity has already reached 125 gigawatts. Just a year ago, this figure stood at 107 gigawatts. Each new "carpet" of panels on rooftops of homes, farms, and industrial sites has boosted the country's independence from coal and gas.

July proved to be particularly generous with sunshine, recording 272 hours of sunlight nationwide—30% above the long-term average. In some areas of the southwest, the sun shone for 11–12 hours a day.

Solar energy in Germany is no longer merely a "green add-on." It has become one of the main pillars of the energy system. This July record serves as clear proof that the transition to clean energy is succeeding.

The sun doesn't send bills. It simply shines. And Germans have learned to harness its full potential.
