Indonesia is becoming a hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, attracting significant investment. As of May 6, 2025, seven EV manufacturers have committed to investing in Indonesia, with investments totaling Rp 15.4 trillion ($1.01 billion USD). These manufacturers include BYD, Citroen, AION, Maxus, Geely, VinFast, and VW. The planned production capacity is 281,000 EV units per year. Indonesia aims to produce 2.5 million EV units per year by 2030, supported by a complete EV industry ecosystem, from nickel mining to battery recycling. The government is incentivizing higher levels of domestic component use (TKDN) in EV production. They are also revising regulations to encourage private sector investment in charging stations to support EV adoption.
