Indonesia Aims for 400k Electric Cars, 6M Electric Bikes by 2025

Jakarta, Indonesia - The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has set ambitious production targets for electric vehicles (EVs). The goal is to reach 400,000 electric cars and six million electric motorcycles by 2025.

As of April 2025, Indonesia's EV population stands at approximately 246,000 units. This includes 180,000 motorcycles and 65,000 cars.

The ministry projects production targets of 600,000 electric cars and nine million electric motorcycles by 2030. Furthermore, the target extends to one million electric cars and 12 million electric motorcycles by 2035.

Several automotive brands have committed to EV production in Indonesia. These brands include BYD (100,000 units), Citroen (15,000 units), Aion (25,000 units), Maxus (6,000 units), Volkswagen (20,000 units), Vinfast (50,000 units per year), and Geely (20,000 vehicles).

More brands are expected to enter the Indonesian market starting in 2026. They are currently participating in incentive programs for import duties and luxury goods sales tax.
