January 16, 2025, USA – Eni S.p.A has finalized the construction of its largest battery storage facility, the Guajillo plant, located in Webb County, Texas. Operated by Eni New Energy U.S. Inc., a subsidiary of Eni's renewable energy division, the plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the first half of 2025.
The Guajillo plant features lithium-ion LFP batteries with a total capacity of 200 megawatts, aimed at supplying power during peak market demand. This facility enhances Eni's renewable energy generation capacity, contributing to a broader trend of rapid adoption of large lithium-ion batteries for renewable energy integration.
Strategically situated next to the Corazon Solar Farm, one of Plenitude's largest solar installations, the Guajillo plant is designed to leverage operational synergies between the two facilities. The site spans 800 hectares and is positioned to address the growing electricity generation from renewable sources in the region.
Eni emphasizes that the Guajillo plant will stabilize the local power grid and improve power efficiency, aligning with the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions. With this project, Plenitude's total installed capacity in the U.S. reaches 1.5 gigawatts, marking its emergence as a leader in the renewable energy market.
