December 2024, Canada - Nano One Materials Corp. has advanced its One-Pot process for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode active materials (CAM) production.
This innovative process integrates all raw materials in a single chemical reaction, streamlining production and reducing environmental impact. A cost comparison study with Worley Chemetics showed the One-Pot process could reduce total capital investment by at least 30% and operational costs by up to 30%.
The process consumes 80% less energy compared to conventional methods and eliminates sodium sulphate wastewater. It could use up to 80% less process water, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50%, depending on energy sources and jurisdiction.
Nano One has completed the preliminary design for its modular "design-one-build-many" plant. This scalable approach aims to accelerate the adoption of the One-Pot process for LFP materials used in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.
Strategic alliances with Rio Tinto and Sumitomo Metal Mining provide access to critical raw materials and new supply chain options. Global LFP demand is projected to reach 1,070 GWh by 2035, a 13-fold increase from 2021 levels.
Nano One's One-Pot process is positioned to play a pivotal role in supplying cost-effective and environmentally sustainable LFP cathode materials. The company focuses on scaling up operations and expanding its licensing strategy to meet the growing global demand.
