Starlink launches service in democratic republic of congo

Edited by: Veronika Nazarova

SpaceX's Starlink is now available in the Democratic Republic of Congo, reversing a previous ban. The Congolese government initially prohibited its use in March 2024. Officials feared it could be exploited by rebel groups, including the Rwandan-backed M23. War-torn Congo suffers from low connectivity, with only about 30% of the population using the internet as of 2023. Starlink's entry aims to improve internet access in the region. The satellite internet provider continues its rapid expansion across Africa. Starlink is now live in over a dozen African countries. This launch marks a significant step in bridging the digital divide in Congo.
